THIS IS A NON-ASA class.

Do you want to know how to navigate?
Do you want to always know where you are?
Do you want to learn how to use a compass, chart and plot a course?

Beginner Class:
Our Navigation Classes are held at West Coast Multihulls’ Main Office.

As well as instruction and training on navigation techniques and strategy, each student attending the class will receive the following equipment as part of the course:

Protractor Triangle with Handle.
Rolling Plotter.
Ultralite Dividers
Class materials

These navigation tools are the SAME tools I use in my navigation. You do not need parallel plotters (walkers). These are not cheap (get-you-by) tools that you can find in a box of Cracker Jacks but REAL daily-use navigation tools.

You will need to bring with you blank paper and pencils / eraser
The class will cover all aspects of basic navigation.
Topics covered in the course include:

  • Introduction to Navigation
  • Understanding Latitude & Longitude
  • Reading the Nautical Chart
  • Finding Latitude, Longitude & Distance
  • Finding Direction
  • Distance, Speed & Time Calculations
  • Getting to Know Your Magnetic Compass
  • Dead Reckoning
  • Use of Large and Small Scale Charts
  • Use of Cruising Guides
  • Use of numerous other Navigation Aids
  • ATON’s Aids to Navigation (Day marks, buoys etc.)

Only those who attend Basic Navigation will be allowed to attend Intermediate Navigation (TBA). Unless proof of navigational skills can be demonstrated.

Cost: $150 (includes navigation tools – $80 value) Basic Navigation (If you own your own navigation tools, you may deduct $80 from the total cost)

The Intermediate Navigation class will only cost $50 for students enrolled in Basic Navigation. All others $125
