Baja Rally 2024 Fleet at Marina Puerto Escondido in Loreto, Mexico

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our 15th Annual Sea of Cortez Baja Rally 2024! We had a fantastic group of seasoned cruisers and local sailing enthusiasts who came together for a weekend of adventure in beautiful Loreto, B.C.S., Mexico. Our activities included sailing, swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, hiking, two beach BBQs, a treasure hunt, and even an attempted spinnaker swing on SV Salt in Agua Verde. The weather was as wonderful as the company. Thank you all for an unforgettable adventure!

DAY 1 – We gathered with the crew on Cinco de Mayo at Marina Puerto Escondido, kicking off the Rally with tacos from local favorite El General and fabulous margaritas from La Brisa. The captains confirmed the sail plan, and the next morning, we departed Marina Puerto Escondido in parade style. This year, we had seven catamarans in the Rally: Gato Loco, Barramundi, Moondrifter, Salt, Balam, Vada Louine, and Mi Sueno.

The crew enjoyed a beautiful sail to Yellowstone Beach at Isla Monserrate, where we had a Happy Hour Dinghy Raft Up on Balam, complete with a stunning sunset. Unfortunately, our treasure hunt was disrupted by non-biting flies, so the next morning, the crew headed south to Agua Verde.

DAY 2 – We had a beautiful sail to Agua Verde, where the crew anchored together at the South anchorage, just a short swim away from a white sandy beach with excellent snorkeling. Chris from Gato Loco led us on a fun hike past the North anchorage, up into the hills, through an oasis, and finally to an elevated cave adorned with red petroglyph paintings. Later, we reunited with the crew at the beach for a festive BBQ and enjoyed a spectacular sunset, highlighted by the Starlink train streaking across the sky.

DAY 3 – We were having such a great time at Agua Verde that the crew decided to stay at the anchorage for an extra day. Bill, Allie, and Cory on Moondrifter kicked off the morning with their traditional, fabulous French toast breakfast. Afterward, the crew split up to explore the town and enjoy cervezas at the beach bar. The warm, sunny day was perfect for swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and spinnaker swinging! Although we needed a bit more wind to lift our willing participants into the air, we still had a blast trying, thanks to Kim on Salt for the valiant effort!

We wrapped up the evening with a potluck beach BBQ and bonfire with s’mores. A big thank you to everyone who contributed their culinary talents, and special thanks to Steve, Jeff, and Pam on Barramundi for the delicious ceviche, and to our mixologist Maria on Seafox for serving refreshing libations! We witnessed another glorious sunset, enjoying the beach bonfire to close out the night. The crew then had a sunny and very relaxing sail/motor sail back to Marina Puerto Escondido as our 2024 Rally came to a close. See you next year!
