West Coast Sailing School
An ASA Training Facility

We’ve teamed up with American Sailing Association (ASA) to become the leader in sailing instruction geared towards Multihulls. We get you on a catamaran faster than anybody in the San Diego area. West Coast Sailing School has the boats and instructors to get you from a beginning sailor to capably skippering a large catamaran on your own. Our system is set up to maximize your time sailing, and get sailors aboard catamarans as quickly as possible.  We teach most of our classes (such as ASA 114 Cruising Catamaran) on Full-Size Catamarans. Examples are the Seawind 1160 or Moorings 3800.  These are the size and type of boats used in bareboat charter programs around the world.  Also, most charter companies require that you have training on full size catamarans to be qualified to charter their boats. Another important difference with our classes is that we limit class size to 4 students.  This assures that you get plenty of time at the helm during our classes. Unlike some other schools, we only use our smaller Gemini 35 Legacy for our ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising class as it is a good size boat to introduce you to catamaran sailing.

Our sailing school philosophy and goal is to emphasis quality, service, and simplicity. We pay more to hire the best Instructors, and pay more again to use the finest boats. Our classes are offered to you in a streamlined manner that does not include additional (surprise!) fees for texts, certifications, testing etc. that add to the true out-the-door prices of the classes.  We are required to charge a San Diego Port & Marina fee of 9%.  That’s it!

See below for ASA classes offered, along with details:

Scheduled classes are highlighted in red in the calendar on the right.  Scroll over them to read details. If you don’t see dates that work for your schedule, we will set up a class on the dates that you choose!  There is only one catch; It takes 2 people to confirm a class.  That’s it!
